We made our way out to New York City to participate in the ‘Broadway Bomb 2012.’ This year the NYPD decided to step in and attempt to restore some order in the streets with a show of force. There were hundreds of officers present along the 8 and 1/2 mile trek ready to collide with nearly 2,000 skaters. Afoot, on scooters, in cars and with patty wagons the police seemed set on shutting it all down. Despite the confusion, fear and uncertainty, the ‘bomb’ went on with factions of skaters changing course, dodging authority, cars and buses along the way. Amanda Powell and Dubes pushed into a herd of cops and skaters and set off into the (critical mass).
It’s been reported that there were no arrests made during the event. For the most part we saw NYPD officers keeping it peaceful and doing their best to not interfere. Chalk another successful ‘bomb’ up for the NYC longboard skate scene in 2012!
Following the ‘Broadway Bomb’ we hit the streets and headed into Central Park with Amanda Powell to take in the beautiful scenery, soak up some culture and join the flock of pedestrians that give Central Park it’s hustle and bustle!
